Spiti -Himachal Pradesh May 2015

2015 was a bit of a travel year -6 month off. Finishing my job in Kaiserslautern in January,I had time to prepare myself for the final exam: Being an "orthopedic surgeon and trauma surgeon" so far, I can call myself now a "specialist" for trauma surgery. A two week Oman trip with Andreas in March was the beginning, being followed by my 10 week Asia trip. Flying into Bangkok end of April, I had planned to stay at a beautiful beach for a week and then continue to Nepal, hiking up to Everest Base Camp and Gokyo lakes. My flight to Nepal was already booked, as the earthquake happened. The short version: Being two flighthours away from Kathmandu, having a confirmed flight 2 days after the desaster, knowing Kathmandu inside-out, having unlimited time as I had not signed my further contract yet, I tried to find any organisation or hospital needing two skilled hands. I don`t know how many emails and phonecalls I did, but finally there was no way to fly into KTM to work. It was heartbreaking. So, after all, I had to change plans on the spot. Decision was made for India, applying for a visa took another week, and I ended up staying in Thailand for 3 weeks, before flying into Delhi and travelling up to Spiti and Kinnaur, which was awesome. Mid June I met Andreas back in Thailand- and we are sure- this Thai-beach-holiday was the last one for a long long time. A nightmare, how much Thailand has changed in the last 20 years. Being back in Germany I started to work in Ludwigshafen again.....and now, daily routine is back and it took me half a year to sort out some pictures;-)
